UNCORK YOUR ADDICTION
By Valerie V. Hunt ©2012
April 2012

Addiction is one of the great growing unsolved mysteries of Life’s choices. Numerous treatments have had some value in curbing addictive behaviors. Those with strong spiritual emphasis seem to be the most successful. Here the higher consciousness apparently weakens the addictive patterns, but it is not a cure. Victims become “sober” addicts who can live a happier life, closer to cultural norms.
Statistical data of cessation of addictive behaviors from treatment vary from 3% average treatment to 21% over 7 years for concentrated residential treatment of 30 to 90 days with ongoing support treatments. There is no evidence of permanent cure. Obviously the present treatments approaches do not eradicate addiction because these don’t remove the cause - the stimulus. The philosophy of current treatment is a down-up, an outside-inside approach - a mind emphasis. This mind approach follows the medical model where addiction is a disease of the brain with known material brain changes. Symptoms must be treated over time with constant follow-up. They cannot be cured. My comment to this thinking is, yes, the brain is a recording device like a computer which can be reprogrammed but only with instructions from different information about addiction.
Nonetheless, because all long term unhealthy practices end in poor health of the entire body, let’s look at the ideal practices of good addiction treatment centers. The down-up, outside-inside medical approach provides comfortable, residential setting with caring, skillful therapists to support you with healthier living schedules, good food and new opportunities to discuss with like people where your occupation is not jeopardized. There are cognitive behavior and motivational enhancement sessions, detox treatments, creative expressive arts and animal husbandry. You can substitute new goals and satisfactions for former addictive ones. This is certainly the ideal “logical” approach. And if it doesn’t completely work, just add more and a longer treatment time of one to 3 months. Oops - limited thinking. We need a new model? Yes, yes, yes.
A New Model of Addiction
As this new model unfolds from my intuitive consciousness, I believe both the old medical model and the new soul model must interface in new treatment programs. I believe they are also for different addictions. Probably the old model from an intelligent understanding of new goals and satisfactions is best for those who escape deep emotional turmoil by physical pain, killing medication recommended by physicians. This treatment removes their pain and gives them some emotional relief, regardless of the associated physical disruptions.
But I believe some - perhaps many- addictives have found a much more creative solution. These I believe are the ones who choose their addictive substance to be a hallucinogenic, euphoric drug which eliminates the pain and turmoil and at the same time gives them a joyful, fantastic, high consciousness that they have never experienced but their soul always wanted.
Their process looks like this. They have a huge emotional turmoil which is with them consciously and affects many of their life’s choices and satisfactions. But they also are a person with a strong will power. At some time that willpower overcomes the trauma and for a SHORT TIME it no longer exists. But before their will power has weakened they take a hallucinogenic substance, which gives them a high- a beautiful reward for intellectual skill and will power to overcome the emotional turmoil. What a joy to get two rewards with one solution. Two solutions with one attempt - freedom from major stress and reward for your cleverness. You have made a profound choice of how to handle intolerable emotional feelings often after much professional advice that didn’t help.
You have used your will power to consciously deny that there is a problem and found that this way also provides you with a reward at the “end”, glorious moments of higher consciousness from hallucinogens, opium, marijuana, heroin - so beautiful you think you could never have those without the drugs. You have killed one “horrible” bird, emotional turmoil, with one stone, and gotten two rewards - evasion of a problem and reward for its “brilliance”. What could be better? Who would want to change such an ideal solution? The intellectual logical approach fails miserably with them. Follows is my new upward-downward, inside-outside, soul level approach to treatment.
My Suggested Treatment
Let’s go into the addiction consciously with joy at our profound decision that worked and was doubly rewarded for working. Two lessons which eliminate the Horrible Problem. What a shock! How dare I accentuate the problem and the enjoyment to solve addiction? Has that ever been tried before? No, of course not. It doesn’t follow logical cause and effect thinking but neither does addiction.
My suggested treatment should only be used in a residence center where there is excellent regular medical attention to monitor the biological changes and provide ideal living conditions. Hallucinogenic drugs should be weakened and gradually eliminated.
Treatment - I am a therapist starting a new program, “Uncork Your Addiction” procedures and I have chosen to work with you because of your strong will power and choice of selecting drugs.
On each days treatment you must retell me the story so I get it all correct , and you remember all the details. I as therapist then encourage you to elaborate rather than shorten your explanations. Give me more feelings and details so I will be able to communicate vividly to other addiction therapists.
What Happens Over Time
The reiterated story will become boring to the addictive which means the conscious “will power” which started the thought “I don’t have an emotional problem” is no longer so deeply repressed. The hippocampus and amygdala of the brain have also been overworked and don’t respond as automatically. That’s when the information - the source of the emotional turmoil- comes through. The patient trusts the therapist because he has helped her to understand earlier addictive solution - but now that solution weakens and with the same insight, not too fast, the therapist can encourage the emotional expressions and insights that are the healing process.
Have I tried this technique? Yes. The insights came first from my own life. I became addicted to thought and creative application in words during my early years of emotional trauma. And before I knew its deepest causes I became addicted to thinking, creating and writing which are big time recreations for me. And when I have finished I want a reward for my cleverness: I drink one, and only one, glass of my favorite wine and eat popcorn. My addiction is not destructive to self or others but it comes from the same behavioral process, as self destructive addictive behaviors. But I never use alcohol or other drugs to escape.
There are therapists who have used lifehood regression therapy and far eastern philosophy, who have claimed curing addictives. I have no doubts that the master past life regression therapists have provided a deeper treatment. But when there is regression and the reading of lifehoods by another person it is still an up-down, outside-inside approach to get to an inward solution and the addictive is still under the control or suggestion of another person. Facts of the lifehood are interpreted by the reader and are very often flavors but not facts.
I have successfully used Life Shock/Soul Destiny sessions where I provide the vibrational field while the person remembers the lifehood experiences that their soul brought to the current life and are now manifesting in addiction. This is a long process and requires the will and soul force to carry it out. I believe it is the only complete solution. Furthermore the person evolves to higher more discriminating wisdoms. I have written at length in several books about them. It is not appropriate for many addictives. Their repression is so deep they cannot recall the source, or the pain of recovery is worse than the addiction.
Conclusions
Those who know my writings, realize that I present not simple extensions of existing thought but shocking criticisms and new bold models to produce controversy and emotion which is the best stimulant to change. Obviously, I have not worked out the details to “Uncork Your Addiction” , nor do I intend to try. I do not plan to run treatment programs. At this stage in my destiny I am an intuitive philosopher, a core researcher who plays “hardball thought”. I was asked of my opinions of addiction and this is what came. I hope you enjoy! Use? Or with enlightened insight dismiss these thoughts.
